Annual MUSA Volleyball Tournament

Every year in February, MUSA organizes an all-day volleyball tournament in Hamilton. Up to 16 teams compete for a chance to be the next MUSA volleyball champion! Originally organized with Brock’s Ukrainian students’ club, MUSA now works hard for months to host the best tournament in Ontario! Every participant not only plays to win, but also receives complimentary snacks, pizza and drinks while listening to the Ukrainian bangers played throughout the day!

After the tournament, players have the chance to go home, rest up, shower, and prepare for our extravaganza zabava! Other Ukrainians and non Ukrainians join to dance the night away.

This tournament and zabava is our most popular event of the year, and we can never wait to host it again to see all the smiling faces determined to win!

Holodomor Commemoration

In the month of November, MUSA takes time to enlighten not only Ukrainians, but also non Ukrainians in the Hamilton community about the Holodomor Genocide that took place in Ukraine 1932-1933. Most recently, we have been organizing an education table in the student center about Holodomor. Many peers and staff would come to the table to learn about the genocide and ask questions.

Other events organized around Holodomor included joining the community in the Holodomor panachyda at Hamilton’s city hall, as well as having a guest speaker come to speak to everyone interested in learning more.

General Meeting

MUSA begins the school year with the annual general meeting, accompanied by pizza and pop! Curious students come by to see what the club is about, and to connect with other students with similar interests. The exec is introduced as well as the planned events for the year. This meet ‘n greet is also the chance for general members to express their thoughts about what they would like to see in the upcoming year.

Kolyada Night

As the Ukrainian Christmas holidays approach, MUSA members spread the holiday spirit by carolling to the Ukrainians of Hamilton. It is always a night full of music, snacks and holiday joy!

Residents of Hamilton are always so happy to hear angelic voices during the Christmas holidays.

Bowling

During midterm season in the first semester, MUSA members have the opportunity to take a break from studying and hit the bowling lanes for MUSA’s annual bowling night. This popular event is always very successful and very competitive. Members play for a chance to win a special prize! Apart from that, it is a time for MUSA members to socialize with one another, have fun and enjoy the night with pizza.

Pub Night

MUSA hosts yearly pub nights for members to socialize with one another. Together, everyone enjoys a few appetizers, drinks and laughs. Every year, more and more members come to participate in this event. In the past, we organized a karaoke night alongside the pub night. All the songs and song choices were very memorable and we can’t wait to do it all over again!

Due to COVID-19, we decided to get creative with our virtual events! During our virtual perogy night, students were able to join us in making perogies on Zoom and later participated in a social/game night. Watch our video above on how to make perogies!
